This week we’re excited to announce that nearly 200 of you have subscribed to our newsletter. Thank you so much!
We’re also gathering feedback on the stories and analysis you would like to see us produce. Please take a few minutes to fill out our short survey. In response to the feedback we’ve already received, we have updated our About section to answer some reader questions.
Before we get to the roundup, this past week RATM caught up with Edmonton City Councillor Andrew Knack to talk about the recent provincial budget. Give it a read.
We're also planning a Facebook Live for March 10 to allow you to get to know us, ask us questions and to discuss municipal politics. Further details coming soon to our Facebook page.
Now, onto the roundup.
Electric Shuffle
The federal government announced $2.75-billion for electric buses in Canadian cities.
Is Calgary … Still in Crisis?
The conversation about downtown Calgary’s increasingly vacant office towers continues. The UCP is now starting a working group to … well, it’s what governments do when they need to look like they’re doing something.
Something else the UCP is doing? Closing the Alberta Government Library.
Twitter Drama
In Edmonton, a resident raised concerns about their councillor blocking them on Twitter and Facebook. That councillor, Mike Nickel, is currently running for mayor.
Aaron Paquette, who’s currently Edmonton councillor for Ward 4, which is now re-named Dene, launched his re-election campaign — and what’s now his fourth Twitter account. On an older one, he got real about what it’s like to run for council.
You can follow Paquette’s account @ward4aaron for important updates about the Nathan Fillion Citizen Pavilion (yes, it’s still a thing!).
