Cowtown Arena Project Held-Up
This week, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation announced a “budget difference” for the Calgary Event Centre meant the project was on hold.
What’s the difference? Oh a trifling 70. Million. Dollars.
In 2019, Calgary City Council approved the deal for a $550-million event centre, only eight days after the proposal was shared with the public. The deal was supposed to see both the City of Calgary and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, which owns the Flames, each invest $275 million.
So far, the citizenry does not seem impressed.
There is speculation this may affect this October’s election, and mayoral ambitions.
Edmonton Mayoral Candidate is Drama
Coun. Nickel is bellicose on social media, especially towards his fellow councillors. He has been tweeting about a complaint that a staff member with Coun. Andrew Knack submitted about his online behaviour. He can’t seem to let it go — wait for it — online.
Coun. Andrew Knack was initially going for the high-road, even quoting Michelle Obama’s famous quip “when they go low, we go high.” But he eventually spoke out.
The strategy does not seem to be winning Nickel many friends.
Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Conference
Rachel Notley, the leader of the Opposition, laid down some truth at the AUMA leaders’ conference this week — about the way the UCP government is potentially using the October municipal election for its own gain.
"They're also using your elections to fight their own political battles," she told conference members.

And we really think it is sad that Notley had to say something like this:
Edmonton Police Funding Discussion Continues
Rage recently did a deep dive into discussion that came out of Edmonton council’s task force for community safety. We explored everything from metrics to money. The discussion is not going to stop, even if council kicked decisions down the road.
And forgive us but we have to share the positive feedback we received because of it. This is why we do what we do.
